    Notes:

    Lee Wyman Banning, 91, a lifetime resident of Greenfield, died on Sunday, June 19, 2016 peacefully at home.
    He was born on November 3, 1924 in Greenfield, to the late Wyman H. Banning and Nyra J. (Hall) Banning. Lee was predeceased by a sister, Florence (Banning) Smith who died in August of 1983.
    Lee graduated from Greenfield High School in 1942. He served in the Army ASTP at Heidelberg College before joining the 102nd 406th Infantry Regiment. He served overseas in Rhineland, Central Europe. He received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and the Purple Heart Combat Infantry Badge.
    After honorable discharge from the Army in 1946, Lee worked at the Montague Rod and Reel for two years. He then went to work for the Greenfield Post Office for 38 years where he became supervisor in charge. After retiring from the Post Office, he later worked in the shipping department at the Channing L. Bete Company for a "great seven years." He retired from that job in 1991.
    In 1949, Lee built a home in Greenfield, which became his lifelong residence. Lee was married to Bernice Pollard on February 22, 1947 and they enjoyed "63 special years together." Bernice died on February 23, 2010.
    Lee attended and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenfield for 74 years. He is survived by his children: Brian and his wife Janet of Greenfield, Alan and his wife Cyndi (Drew) of Turners Falls, and Jennifer (Banning) Cullen and her husband Jim of Greenfield. He is also survived by 6 loving grandchildren: Rachel, Emma and Casey Banning, Megan Cullen, Robert Banning, Susan Brooks and her husband Michael along with one great-grandchild: Michael (Mikey) Brooks. Lee also leaves many wonderful friends, especially his dear friend and companion Dolores Harvey.
    Lee enjoyed family gatherings, going out to eat and playing cards with friends, working around the yard, and watching New England sporting events. He was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and The Celtics. He was a loving father, brother, son, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
    Private Graveside services will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Lee's family would like to thank O'Connell Care at home and Hospice of Franklin County for their excellent care, support, and friendship. Walker Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
