    Doris E. Shaw October 7, 1924 - August 9, 2011 Norwich - Doris E. (Banning) Shaw, 86, wife of the late Arthur L. Shaw Sr., died Tuesday afternoon at her home. Born in East Hartford on October 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Clarance and Ethel (Denler) Banning. On May 6, 1942, in Harrisburg, PA she was united in marriage to Arthur L. Shaw, Sr., who died on November 11, 1995. Prior to her retirement she was employed as a Personal Care Aide at the Eliza Huntingtion Home. Mrs. Shaw was also a devoted foster mother to numerous children. Surviving are three sons, William Shaw and his wife Bev of Oakdale, Ronald Shaw and his wife Beth of Jacksonville, FL, and Arthur L.Shaw, Jr. and his wife Pat of Plainfield; two daughters Theresa Fields and her husband David of Norwich and Norene Twerdy and her husband Dean of Putnam, a brother Ronald Banning of Vernon and a sister Phyllis Holzman of New Britain; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and newphews. She was predeceased by a daughter Gloria Ross, son in law Harold "Skip" Ross, Sr. and a grandson Harold "Skippy" Ross, Jr. Visitation Friday 6 to 8 P.M. at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 20, 2011 at the home of her son and daughter in law William and Bev Shaw, 113 Forsyth Rd., Oakdale at 2 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donation in Doris memory may be made to Hospice of S.E. CT, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.

    Phyllis Marie "Nippy" (Banning) Holzman, 86 of Burlington, CT passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 with her family by her side at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain, CT. She was a loving, kind and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a person who enjoyed her life. Born in Hartford, CT on January 8, 1929 to the late Clarence and Ethel (Dennler) Banning and sister, Doris (Banning) Shaw of Norwich, CT. She leaves behind a brother, Ronald Banning of Vernon, CT and sister-in-law Frances and many nieces and nephews and extended family in the Norwich area. She grew up and attended the local schools in the Glastonbury /Colchester area. She is predeceased by her husband William Carl "Red" Holzman. They married on September 27, 1952 and resided in New Britain, CT where they began their life together and raised their four children William Jr., Wayne, Valerie and Carol. Phyllis worked and retired from Fafnir Bearings in New Britain after 38 years in 1991. After retiring, she moved to Burlington, CT where she lived for over 20 years with her daughter Valerie and son-in-law Ziggy. While living in Burlington, she enjoyed working alongside her daughter at her home daycare where she touched so many of the children's lives and was known to all of them as "Grandma." She enjoyed the warm weather, sitting in the sun on the deck with their dogs, Abbey and Cooper, and taking her daily walks. She looked forward to her Saturday routine of getting her hair done, shopping and having lunch with her daughter Carol. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by everyone who came to know and love her. Phyllis is survived by two sons William Carl Holzman Jr. and his wife Sandra of East Berlin, and Wayne Allen Holzman and his wife Suzanne Onorato of Simsbury; two daughters, Valerie Spiewak (Holzman) and her husband Ziggy of Burlington, and Carol Holzman of New Britain; six grandchildren, Joseph Grecki and his wife Christine, Erin (Spiewak) Mazzone and her husband Brian, Samantha (Holzman) Boguslawski and her husband Anthony, Katlynn Holzman, William Wayne Holzman and Bennett Francis Holzman; and two great grandchildren, Sophie Elizabeth Mazzone and Case James Grecki. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service in her memory on Saturday January 9, 2016 from 2-4 pm at the Paul A. Shaker Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue in New Britain.

    Gloria Mae Ross June 29, 1942 - January 22, 2008 COLCHESTER _ Gloria Mae Ross, 64, of Lakeview Dr., Colchester, beloved wife of Harold, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2008) at home. Born June 29,1942 in Hartford, she was a daughter of Doris (Banning) Shaw of Norwich and the late Arthur Shaw. On April 25, 1959, she and Harold were married in Fitchville. Early on, Gloria worked as a nurse's aide in area convalescent homes and went on to be a machinist for Brownell in Moodus. In her spare time, she was an avid reader and doll collector and she also enjoyed camping with her family. In addition to her loving husband of 48 years, she is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Taylor and husband, Robert of Bozrah; three sons, Harold, Jr. and wife, Linda, Robert and wife, Karen and Wayne, all of Colchester; five grandchildren, Kim, Mike, Samantha, Lucas and Haley; two great grandchildren, Zachary and Lauren; two sisters, Terry Fields and Noreen Shaw, both of Norwich; three brothers, Bill of Montville, Ron of Pawcatuck and Art of Plainfield, and numerous extended family members and friends including Judy Kudrak of Middletown and Rose Daniels of Colchester. She will be remembered most for her devotion and love to her husband and family. Friends may call 1 - 3 PM Saturday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A Chapel Service will be held at 2 PM. Burial will be private. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the CT Oncology Group in Middletown, as well as to Hospice SECT, the Colchester-Hayward Vol. Fire Co. and to Hunters Ambulance for all that they have done to help Gloria through her illness.     Ronald A. Shaw of Jacksonville, Florida passed peacefully at his home with his wife on July 3, 2018. He was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on December 8, 1950 to the late Arthur Shaw, Sr. and Doris (Banning) Shaw.
    He was predeceased by one sister, Gloria (Shaw) Ross and one nephew, Harold Ross, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Beth Shaw; one daughter, Jamie Smith and her husband, Andy Smith of Florida; two grandchildren, Danny Rorabaugh and Malia Mann of Florida; two brothers, William Shaw and Arthur Shaw, Jr., both of Connecticut; and two sisters, Terri Fields and Norene Twendy, both of Connecticut.
    Ron was employed at Electric Boat for 40 years. After he retired he and his wife moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be with his daughter and grandchildren where he worked in hospitality for 8 years.
    Ron?s past times included listening to his records, watching NASCAR and rooting for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
    Ron touched MANY hearts and was loved and respected by everyone who met him.

    Born Oct. 6, 1959, in Norwich, he was a son of Harold L. Ross Sr. of Colchester and the late Gloria (Shaw) Ross. Skip was a dedicated custodian for the Colchester school system for the past 30 years.
    Early on, he met the love of his life, Linda Gebert, at work, and they were married on June 21, 1986 at the Colchester Federated Church.
    Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A chapel service will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be private.
