    Eloise J. McDowell, 80 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Eastside Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield. Eloise was born in Pike County, IL on June 5, 1933, a daughter of Eben and Rita Splain Pennock. She married Stuart Thornton and he preceded her in death then married Elton ?Ed? Edwards and he preceded her in death. In 1982 she and Bernie McDowell married and he preceded her in death in 2009.
    Eloise was a member of the Detroit Methodist Church and had attended church in Milton and Detroit. She had worked in the restaurant business and had worked at several businesses in Pike County. At one time she owned a restaurant in St. Elmo, IL. She retired in 1998 from Smith-Barr Manor as a dietician. She was a St. Louis Cardinal fan, enjoyed reading, crossword and word search puzzles and sewing. She dearly loved her grandkids and never missed a chance to be with them.
    She is survived by two sons, Stanley (Susan) Barker of Baylis, IL and Bob (Tina) Edwards of Detroit, IL; one daughter, Pat Thornton and husband Bryan Glenn of Mishawaka, IN and a stepdaughter, Lyla Paull of Mississippi. Ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren survive in addition to a sister, Geneva Wheeler of Texas. Eloise was preceded in death by her husbands, a daughter, Linda Thornton Brown, a brother, Everett Pennock and a sister, Elizabeth ?Libby? Barker.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Detroit Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Kelly officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday evening, January 12, 2014 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the Detroit Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery near Detroit. A lunch for family and friends will be held at the Detroit Town Hall after interment.
    Memorials are suggested to be made to the Bethel Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.nieburfh.com. The Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield has been entrusted with the service.

    Gary Everett Pennock, 54, of Detroit, died Thursday (March 25, 2010) in Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Gary was born Dec. 17, 1955, in Pittsfield, a son of Everett and Lois Reel Pennock. Gary was a graduate of East Pike High School and attended Detroit United Methodist Church. He was employed at JBS United, Griggsville, as a truck driver and was the owner of Gary Pennock trucking. Gary enjoyed riding his Harley- Davidson and his four wheeler, was an avid fan of Jeff Gordon on the NASCAR circuit, going to coffee and sitting at the "Liar's Table" and collecting bicentennial quarters, and greatly loved being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his special companion, Lori Thornton of Detroit; four children, Ryan Smith and his mother, Maria Smith, of Milton, Michael Lawson of Chambersburg, Heather Robinson of Detroit, and Hillary Pennock of Springfield; five grandchildren, Matthew Fowler, Zachary Robinson, Kaitlyn Robinson, Peyton Lawson and Jaren Lawson; five brothers and two sisters, Roger (Brenda) Pennock and Jerry (Wanda) Pennock, both of Detroit, Jamie (Brandi) Pennock, John (Lisa) Pennock and Reggie (Kim) Pennock, all of Pittsfield, Marcia (Kay) Dehart of Pittsfield and Nancy (Dick) Lomelino of Detroit; his stepmother, Bev Littleton of Pittsfield; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Pennock and Lois Miller; and stepfather, Lloyd Miller. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church in Detroit with the Rev. Dave Kelly and Pastor Glenna Pruitt conducting. Burial will be in Blue River Cemetery near Detroit with a lunch following at the Detroit Town Hall. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield.

    Linda Thornton Brown, 52 of Bowling Green, Mo. and formerly of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at her residence.
    Linda was born in Pittsfield, July 13, 1958, a daughter to Elton ?Ed? and Eloise Pennock Edwards.
    Linda was employed at the Women?s Eastern Regional Correctional Center in Vandalia, Mo. and had previously worked for six years at the Pike County Missouri Sheriff?s office as a 911 dispatcher. She enjoyed going to yard sales, antiquing, traveling, plays and musicals. She was a St. Louis Blues hockey fan and greatly enjoyed her family and friends.
    Linda is survived by her mother, Eloise McDowell of Pittsfield; two sons, Scott Thornton (partner-Chris Youngblood) of Sesser; Jeffrey Brown of Ft. Carson, Colo. and currently serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, a daughter, Shannon Branham (fiancé, Daniel Reynolds) of Farber, Mo. and three grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survives; Stan (Susan) Barker of Baylis and Bob (Tina) Edwards of Detroit and Patricia (Bryan) Glenn of Mishiwaka, Ind. She was preceded in death by her father Ed, stepfather, Bernie McDowell and grandmother, Rita Pennock.
    Services were held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Ron Baker officiating. A visitation was held Monday evening at 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be at the Bethel Cemetery near Griggsville at a later date. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
