In addition to his chosen career as a soldier, Cecil was active in municipal politics and was the Fire Chief of Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department for many years. An athlete and sports enthusiast, he shared his passion for athletics as an official in local amateur sports. He was a member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion and a supporter of many charities including the Ottawa Humane Society, the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Terry Fox Foundation. Cecil and his wife Cecile displayed their passion for international travel, visiting many countries in recent years. They settled in Cardinal, Ontario, where they enjoyed gardening, ship-watching, and the company of friends and family in the comfort of their country home. He will be remembered as a caring man with a strong sense of family and community values and is mourned by many friends and co-workers. The family wishes to thank the dedicated medical staff at Brockville General Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for their care and support during his final days.     GOYETTE , Joanne (nee Poitras) 1950-2015 - After a brave and courageous fight with lung cancer, we are deeply saddened to announce that on April 22, 2015 at the age of 64, Joanne Goyette has passed peacefully with family by her side. She leaves behind her devoted loving husband of 45 years Jacques Goyette; her three loving daughters Kimberley Goyette (Matt Burke), Jennifer Goyette (Mel Bond), Amy Goyette Ripley (Robert Ripley), as well as her loving sister Susan (Marcel Charlesbois), deceased sister Caroline Laniel, and brother Rene Poitras (Linda McCartney), 10 grandchildren: Jacob Cleroux, Noah Cleroux, Matthew Bond, Michael Bond, Charles Bond, Jenna Bond, Julia Ripley, Nikki Ripley, Shannen Ripley, Carter Ripley. Daughter of the late Gerard Poitras and Joyce Galloway. Special thank you to the doctors at the General Hospital, Dr. Stewart and staff, as well as Dr. Johanne Trenholm, and the wonderful staff at the Bruyere Continuing Care Hospital and Saint Vincent hospital, as well as the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Civic Hospital. Respecting Joanne's wishes, a private family memorial will take place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to KELLY FUNERAL HOME, WALKLEY CHAPEL (613-731-1255). As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

    MILLAR - Douglas ?Doug? Alexander of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 60. Missed by siblings Lori Millar of Ottawa, Dan Millar (Judy) of Stratford, and Sharron Millar of Ottawa. Uncle to Chris Millar, Sean Millar, Stephen Hepburn and Alex Cavanagh, and Alexandria Hepburn-Sweet (Dan). Doug grew up in a small town east of Ottawa where he embraced the joys of country living and developed a love for animals. He worked as a millwright and was also a licensed auto mechanic. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to St Thomas Elgin Food Bank or Animal Aide would be appreciated.

Loving mother of her sweet child, Emilie (Louis Cormier). Cherished sister of Lynn (Daniel Castonguay) and Susan (Jacques Simard). Will be fondly remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Sincere thanks the PSWs and caregivers from Home Care Health for their great care and compassion towards Kimberly.
