Born on the Canadian prairie ? a wintery day on December 20, 1928 in Forrest of the Elton municipality near Brandon, Manitoba ? Eileen was the second child of Halhad and Eva Shelvey. Following her brother, Eileen was the eldest daughter, with four other little ones soon to follow. Along with her siblings she trekked across farmer?s fields to attend a attended a two -room, and then boarded in Brandon to complete high school.
After graduating, she set her sights on nursing and entered the Affiliated Nurses Course, which provided training at a variety of institutions including Brandon Mental Hospital, Brandon General, Winnipeg Grace, Winnipeg Children?s, and Ninette Sanitorium for those living with tuberculosis. Her training included scrubbing floors, tending to patients, working nights, and she nursed the first boy who died of polio in Brandon in 1951.
Early in her early nursing career, she fell in love with Hubert Hall. They were married on September 16, 1955 and relocated to the west coast, where Eileen worked at the Portland Hospital, and Hugh pursued his education at Portland University. Eileen?s tenacity ? hard work, grit and sensibility ? secured her many well-earned positions and she was quickly respected among her colleagues. Over a fifteen tenure of formal nursing, Eileen worked at many hospitals including Vancouver, B.C., Eugene Oregon, Columbia, Ohio, Long Beach and Garden Grove, California. Her gift to comfort others continued throughout her life, as she was often found caring for individuals experiencing illness or hardship. Her home frequently a place for rest and refuge.
Eileen and Hugh were blessed to have two sons, Gregory, and Jeffrey. Eileen created a space for children to thrive ? trampolines, motorbikes, and many summers spent in Manitoba. She was more than a mom ? she was also a friend. They also travelled extensively through South America, Europe, Canada, Alaska, and Asia.
Together, Hugh and Eileen were actively involved in their local church. They were generous supporters of many groups aiming to improve the lives of young people and to give hope to those in need. Eileen was very faithful in her service to helping others, through ministries such as Royal Kids camps, Teen Challenge, Wycliffe Bible translators, the Widower?s group, and countless other individuals who she reached in her quiet and humble manner.
Eileen was truly a special person with a kind heart. Over the years she relied on her deep faith in God for the strength to carry on, to persevere and was always grateful for the gifts of life.

Eileen married Hubert Victor Hall on 16 Sep 1955 in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Hubert (son of George Henry Hall and Ivy Agnes Smith) was born on 24 Mar 1930 in Belmont, Manitoba, Canada; died on 15 Mar 1991 in Orange County, California, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
