There passed peacefully away on Thursday evening, March 21st, at the home of her son, Robert D. Munroe, a well know and respected resident in the person of Mrs. Daniel Munroe, who had been ill for several months. The late Mrs. Munroe whose maiden name was Elizabeth Rintoul, was born 86 years ago in the Township of Darling, a daughter of the late John Rintoul and Margaret McGee. About 61 years ago she became the wife of Daniel Munroe of Lanark Township and resided near Clayton until 23 years ago when they moved to the village of Clayton. A quiet reserved woman she possessed the sterling qualities that made her a good wife and a good mother, and won for her the love of many friends and the respect of all who knew her. The union was blessed by eight children, namely, Margaret, Mrs. Archie McNeil, Naseby, Sask.; Kate, Mrs. James Stewart of the 6th line of Ramsay, (deceased); John of Drummond; Hugh of Middleville; David of Clayton; William of Almonte; Robert of Lanark Township and Charles of Darling Township. She leaves 28 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters; Mrs. Euphemia Munroe of Ramsay; Mrs. Janet McIntyre of Langham, Sask.; and Mrs. Margaret Miller of Sinclair, Man. Her husband predeceased her in 1921. The funeral was held on Saturday, March 23rd, from the home of her son, Robert D. Munro, to Guthrie United Church, Clayton, of which she as a devoted member until ill health prevented her attending, thence to the United Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. G. D. Empey. The pallbearers were six grandsons of deceased, namely, Mac and Willie Stewart, Dan, Keith, Eric and Arthur Munroe. A beautiful wreath was on the casket from the family and a spray from the Stewart family. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family.

Almonte lost one of its older citizens this past week, when Mrs. Mary McKay Sutherland passed away at the Drynan Rest Home in her ninety-fourth year, July 31, 1966. She was born in Darling Township, a daughter of the late William Rintoul and Jeanie Pretty. Married Alexander J. McKay in 1893 who pre-deceased her in 1918. They had nine children, namely, Jean, Mrs. Arthur Creighton and James R. McKay of Rosetta; Jessie, Mrs. George Saunders, (deceased); Agnes, Mrs. Earl Manson; Margaret. Mrs. Edgar Lee; and Leonard McKay of Almonte: Elizabeth, Mrs. Wm. Labron; Edith, Mrs. Jack Stratton, both of Paris, Ontario: and Alvin McKay of Ashton. Ontario. MRS. J. H. SYMINGTON

The death occurred in the Rosamond Memorial Hospital, Almonte on Tuesday, Aug. 30th of Mrs. Joseph (Margaret Jennett Munro) H. Symington following a short illness. She was 81. Born in Darling Township, she received her education there and in 1903 married Joseph H. Symington, a Ramsay Township farmer and former Reeve of Ramsay. Mrs. Symington was an active church worker in St. Paul's Anglican Church. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and the Ladies' Guild. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons and two daughters, Milton and Alex of Arnprior; Chas. of Almonte; Mrs. Everton McIntyre of Saskatoon; Mrs. Cecil Mclntyre of Almonte, also one brother, Alex Munro of Galbraith, 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The body was at the Kerry-Scott Funeral Home until Friday when the funeral service was conducted at St. Paul's Anglican Church by Rev. Canon J. W. R. Meakin. Interment was in St. Paul's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. Allan, Donald, Claire and Wayne Symington, William Dean and Lorne Bretzlaff.

Daniel Galbraith, MP, MPP, owned the land at Rae Road and Concession 5 in the former Ramsay Township which he purchased in 1855. Upon his death in 1879, his son Robert took over the land, passing it then to his sister Phoebe, Mrs. Robert Black, in the latter part of the century. In 1923, the land was sold to Alex Munro from Darling Township, then in 1944 to Alex?s son-in-law Herbert Hazelwood. Today, the community of Galbraith is a sparse collection of farm homes and a brick bungalow on the site where the yellow schoolhouse once stood. The first one room Galbraith School, S.S. No. 5 Ramsay, was on a half acre of land at the top of the hill, which Mr. Galbraith had sold to the school trustees in 1870 for $1.00. He also gave land for a second school in 1875 on the opposite side of the road, the yellow schoolhouse. This school operated until 1969 when the Government of Ontario mandated the consolidation of county schools and bussed students to nearby Almonte or Carleton Place.

Robert D. Munro
Entered into rest at the Almonte Hospital on Friday, January 19th, 1973, in his 84th year, Robert D. Munro, husband of the late Margaret Yuill, who predeceased him September 11th, 1961. Born in Lanark Township, August 20th, 1889, he was the last member of an old and well known family, son of the late Daniel Munro and his wife Betsy Rintoul. On June 12th, 1912, he and his wife were married at Hall's Mills and settled on the homestead where he was born and brought up, where they lived for over forty years. Sixteen years ago he moved to Clayton Village, where he spent the remainder of his lifetime. Deceased was a member of Clayton United Church. Surviving to morn the loss of a dear father and grandfather are, one son, Arthur of Clayton, and two daughters, Addle (Mrs. Matt Somerville), Middleville and Margaret (Mrs. George S. Affleck), Clayton. There are also five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Deceased members of his family are five brothers, Hugh, John, William, David and Charles and two sisters, Kate (Mrs. James Stewart) and Maggie (Mrs. Arch. McNeil). The funeral was held on Monday, January 22nd, at 2 o'clock from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte. Service was conducted by Rev. Gordon C. Smyth of the Central Lanark Parish. Pallbearers were four nephews and two grandsons; George Stewart, Leonard Munro, Ronald Yuill, Donald Munro, Frank Somerville and Wayne Affleck. Many beautiful floral tributes and "In Memoriam" cards were received. Interment Clayton United Cemetery vault, with burial in the spring.

At the Almonte General Hospital on Sunday, Nov. 25, 1962, Charles Munro , beloved husband of Jean Yuill and dear father of (Della) Mrs. Thomas Ireton, Ferguson's Falls, and Donald, Almonte; in his 71st year. Resting at the Kerry Funeral Home, 154 Elgin Street, Almonte, for service on Tuesday at 2.30 p.m. Interment Clayton United Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canadian Heart Foundation. Well known in the Clayton District where he was born in April 10, 1892 a son of the late Daniel Munro and his wife Betsy Rintoul, passed away early Sunday morning Nov. 25, 1962. He was married Jan. 29, 1919 to Jean Yuill and have resided ever since on their farm in Darling Township. He was a life long member of Guthrie United Church and was active in all church work. The many floral and memorial offerings testified the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Mr. Munro Is survived by his wife the former Jean Yuill and one son Donald and a daughter (Della) Mrs. Thomas Ireton of Ferguson's Falls and three grandchildren, Charles Munro, and Brenda and Lillian Ireton. Also surviving are two brothers, John A. Munro of Lanark, Robt. D. Munro of Clayton and a sister, Mrs. Archie McNeil of Regina, Sask. Funeral services were held from the Kerry Funeral H ome on Tuesday, Nov. 27. The Rev. Robert Clarke conducting the funeral services. The pallbearers were six nephews, Daniel Munro, Arthur Munro, A llie Yuill, Wilmer Pretty, Malcolm Stewart and Eric Munro. Interment was in the United Church Cemetery, Clayton.

In the early 1930?s Betty moved from Almonte, ON to Paris and worked in the "finishing room" in Penmans. Betty was a long time member of St Paul's United Church when in earlier years she enjoyed quilting and taught Sunday School. Betty attributed her long life to a close knit, loving relationship with her parents and siblings; her faith in God; fresh air; being a conscientious hard worker; the love of her family and drinking Green Tea. We will miss her radiant smile and her positive attitude. She was a very special lady who showed unconditional love and devotion to her whole family. She was truly an inspiration to all of us. Our precious memories will be treasured forever.

CECIL McINTYRE

The sudden death of Cecil Milton McIntyre of 188 Country Street occurred in Almonte on, Monday, October 20th, 1975. He was in his 62nd year. Mr. McIntyre was born on December 26, 1913 in Langham, Saskatchewan, the son of the late John A. McIntyre and the Euphemia Barr. Mr. Mclntyre served from 1940 to 1945 in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. He farmed in Ramsay township for several years, after which he was employed by Pfizer of Canada in Arnprior for thirteen years. Ill health then forced him into semi-retirement. An avid fan of all sports and very interested in music, Mr. McIntyre was also a member of the Almonte United Church. On July 10, 1943, he married Evelyn Symington in Almonte whom he predeceases. Mrs. McIntyre is an elementary school teacher in Almonte. Surviving are his wife Evelyn, and daughters Wilma Jean Chapman of Ottawa, and Gail Evelyn Colbourne of Bells Corners. Also surviving are brothers; Everton of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; MacPherson of Delisle, Saskatchewan, David of Langley, British Columbia; and sisters Violet Brown of Langham, Saskatchewan, Jean McMillan of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Ada Urquhart of Edmonton, Alberta. Predeceased is one daughter, Gwen Evelyn, who died in infancy. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Almonte, on Thursday, October 23 at 2.00 p.m. with interment in Auld Kirk Cemetery.
