    • Clement "Clem" M. Poort, age 84, passed away Monday, April 18. He was born March 9, 1932 in Muskegon to Teresa and Cornelius Poort. He graduated from Muskegon High in 1950 and married Iris Leak. Clem retired after 44 years from American Coil Springs in 1994. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He played football for the Muskegon Big Reds and was a member of the Leather Helmet Club. Clem also played BlackHawks football, hockey, basketball, and baseball for American Coil Springs. Later in life, he enjoyed boating at his cottage on Long Lake near Traverse City with his children and grandchildren, and playing cards with his family. Clem is survived by Iris Poort and his 5 daughters, Linda (Steve) Thaler, Jan Poort, Lori (Marv) Hughey, Joyce (Dan) Emory, and Julie (Brian) Rakowski; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 30 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231-798-1100). Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to Harbor Hospice would be appreciated.
