Man struck, killed on I-81 while assisting motorist
PARISH - A motorist who pulled to the side of Interstate 81 to assist another driver who had gone off the road was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the town at 5:03 p.m. Friday, state police said. Police say Dale Haywood, of Altmar, was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck after he pulled to the side of the southbound-traffic lane and exited his vehicle. Mr. Haywood was pronounced dead at the scene but the driver of the truck was not injured, police said.
