Harlie Steenberg

Winthrop- Harlie S Steenberg, 76, Carlsbad, Calif, formerly of Winthrop, Waddington and Massena, was found dead at his home by a neighbor on Feb. 2. He had been ill with emphysema.
Mr. Steenberg worked for Aluminum Company of America, Massena, retiring in 1965. He later worked for Caltrans, the California State Highway Department, until retiring again in 1985.
Born Dec. 15, 1922, in the Town of Brasher, son of Harlie H and Martha E Price Steenberg, he attended the former Brasher-Stockholm High School and played basketball.
He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, during World War II.
He married June Barkley of Massena. They moved from Massena to Carlsbad in 1965. She died before him.
Surviving are three sons, Steven, Goose Creek, SC, Don, Vancouver, Wash., and Bruce Escondido, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Romero, Commerce City, Colo.; three sisters, Viola Burnap, Community Nursing Home,Potsdam, and Arlene Wood and Sylvia Quinneville, both of Massena; three step-brothers, Paul and Gilbert Collins, both of Massena, and Don Collins, Paul Smiths; a step-sister, Barbara Collins Steenberg, Massena and Florida, six grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
An infant sister, Florence, a brother Arthur H., and a sister Isabelle McClure Douglas Smith, died before him.
There was no funeral. The body was cremated, and the ashes spread on the Pacific Ocean.
Arrangements were with Eternal Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, Oceanside, Calif.
