William Chamberlain
William J. Chamberlain, 73, a resident of 2 Draper St., died Saturday at Oswego Hospital.
Mr. Chamberlain was born in the village of Cayuga and was the son of the late Rev. William C. and Lucina (Wiley) Chamberlain. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, class of 1963. Prior to his retirement in 1980, Mr. Chamberlain was the owner and manager of Chamberlain Pontiac-Cadillac car dealership in Oswego for more than 25 years. Most recently, he was employed by the Oswego County Savings Bank.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Chamberlain was a member of and served on the board of directors of the American Red Cross. He was a member and past officer of the Oswego Rotary Club and a member and former officer of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Chamberlain was the president of the Oswego Car Dealers Association and served with Meals on Wheels.
He was a communicant of the First United Methodist Church. His wife, Nellie Lee, died June 26, 1988.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Lee Xanco of Kenmore and Susan Miller of Acton, Mass.; a son, William C. Chamberlain of Oswego; a sister, Mrs. URana DeGraw of Winston-Salem, N.C.
