Gordon Goodemote
TIFTON ? Gordon Douglas Goodemote, 69, of Tifton died Friday, May 22, 2009, comfortably in his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Ed Goggans officiating and burial to follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.Ryan McDaniel, Jay Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Keven Napier, Jeff Gilmer and Tyler Wedgeworth will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of DAV Chapter 38 in Tifton. Mr. Goodemote was born Dec. 15, 1939 in Buffalo, N.Y., and was the son of Wayne Dwight Goodemote and Elma Armstrong Goodemote, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joni-Ellen Goodemote. He was a general contractor and a member of Worldwide Church of God. He was also a member of the DAV Chapter 38 in Tifton and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had lived in Tift County since the summer of 1973.Mr. Goodemote was a wonderful father who loved his family deeply. He will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He was fun, loving and he lived life to the fullest.Mr. Goodemote is survived by the mother of his children, Vera L. Meers Goodemote of Tifton; five daughters, Jessica McDaniel, Mary Dunn and Erin Goodemote, all of Tifton, Cathryn Long of Villa Rica and Nellie Goodemote of Rome; two sisters, Janice Rhode of California and Joyce Imperatori of Florida; six grandsons, Ryan McDaniel, Jay Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Jared Long, Jacob Gilmer and Benjamin Long; and one grandaughter, Perrin Price.Upon Mr. Goodemote's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Tiftarea, who were so gracious in their care-giving, or Emory University Hospital, Heart Transplant Foundation.
