Thomas Krikawa
Thomas M. Krikawa, 48, of Windsor, beloved husband of Linda (Banning) Krikawa, passed peacefully to his eternal home, on Wednesday, (August 8, 2007) after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Tom was born in Brookhaven, NY on August 16, 1958, son of Joseph and Virginia (Bell) Krikawa of Tucson, AZ. Tom lived in various places during his early life, including Long Island, NY, Missouri, Illinois, New Jersey and Colorado. In 1974, his family moved to West Hartford, where he graduated from Conard High School, class of 1976; during these two years Tom made cherished and lasting friendships. In 1976 Tom continued his education at the University of Vermont, majoring in mathematics. He was an avid member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he developed many wonderful memories. Upon graduating from UVM in 1980, he moved to Houston, Texas to complete a systems analyst training program for his first position at Combustion Engineering in Windsor. Tom was promoted within the company during his career, his last position that of Director of Information Technology. Tom held the company, and those with whom he worked, in the highest regard. During his early career, he also pursued an MBA at the Hartford Graduate Center/ R.P.I. Throughout his lifetime, Tom enjoyed various pastimes. During his early school years he developed a love of nature and reading. During his two years at Conard, he became an accomplished wrestler, member of the track and field team and cross country teams. After marrying Linda, his wife of 20 years, in 1987, Tom most enjoyed spending time with his family. The focus of his life was his wife and children, Katie and Connor, nurturing their interests in nature (while at Northwest Park or visiting Vermont), soccer, cross country, music and in a general love of learning. Tom was an assistant coach for his children's soccer teams, and served on the board and as a Director for the Windsor Soccer Club. Cherished family memories included annual vacations spent in New Hampshire and at the beach in Ogunquit, Maine. In his adult life, Tom most enjoyed going to his children's sports events, coaching, playing golf, fishing and following his favorite sports teams, the New York Giants and the New York Mets. Tom was an active member of St. Joseph's parish and practiced his faith daily in his interactions with those around him. Besides his parents and his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katherine E. "Katie" Krikawa; a son, Connor J. Krikawa , four brothers, Edward Krikawa and his wife Margaret of Washington, James Krikawa of Arizona, John Krikawa and his wife Lisa of Arizona, and Andrew Krikawa and his wife Jennifer of Washington; five sisters, Anne Mazella and her husband Shawn of Windsor, Jeanne Krikawa and her husband Lowell Knapp of Washington, Mary Fontes of Arizona, Patricia House of Arizona, and Maureen Harris and her husband James of Florida; his loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irving and Alice Banning of South Newfane, VT; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Beeman and her husband Barry, of Brattleboro, VT., two brothers-in-law, Kevin Banning and his wife Janice of Enfield, and William Banning and his wife Gina of Manchester. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., in the Poquonock section of Windsor. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Poquonock. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 15, 4-8 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. During this time, friends may share reflections on Tom's life beginning at 7 p.m. following a short prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Northwest Park, Inc., P.O. Box 773, Windsor, CT 06095.
