William Alfred South
The funeral service for William Alfred South was conducted by Reverend Judith Hare on Friday, May 28, 1994, at the Paul Funeral Home Chapel, Powassan. Mr. South died at Civic Hospital, North Bay, on Tuesday, May 24, 1994.
He is survived by his wife Irene South. Predeceased by his first wife Doris in 1991. Dear father of Donna South, Sault Ste. Marie; Bob (June) South, North Bay, Bill Jr. (Betty) South, Nipissing; Ken (Lorraine) South, Sault Ste. Marie and Karen Emesowum, London. Stepfather of Marvel (Laurie) Bell, Manitoulin Island and Brandt (Mary) Bradley, Bonfield. Beloved grandfather of Kathy, Kevin, Shannon, Matthew, Michael, Ryan, Stacey, Christine, Jessica, Ijeoma, Isaac, Doris, Heather, Clayton and Darryl. Brother of Charlie (Joyce), Calgary; Ernie ((Marie), Valemount, British Columbia. Predeceased by brothers Jim and Cecil.
Bill was born on the Stillaway farm, son of Edith (Stillaway) and Edward South. He was raised in the Nipissing area. When he was young, he worked in the lumber camps for the Odorizzi and Moore families. He married Doris Grawbarger in December 1944. They farmed and supplemented their income in the tobacco farms of Southern Ontario. They raised a family of five and Bill devoted much of his life to family outings. Bill worked at Dupont from 1957 until retirement. He was widowed in August on 1991 and then married Irene Bradley on December 4, 1992.
Bill South was a gentle, soft spoken, loving person who enjoyed the outdoors. He was involved in the Pine Ridge Hunt Camp and his own camp in Hornepayne.
Bill has 15 grandchildren whom he loved very deeply, and they always looked forward to spending time with grandpa.
Casket bearers for Mr. South were Tim South, Ryan South, The South, Matthew Colin, Kevin South, Michael South, Brandt Bradley and Dennis Johnston. Honorary bearers were Charlie South and Ireton Grawbarger. Interment was at Powassan Union Cemetery.
