Mrs. Edward J. Hamilton
Mrs. Helene C. Hamilton, 57, of 371 Elm St., Montpelier, wife of Edward J. Hamilton, died Saturday afternoon at Heaton Hospital. She had been ill for many years.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., Nov. 9, 1903, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Carruthers. Her early childhood was spent in Lawrence, Mass. and St. Johnsbury, Vt. She was graduated from Johnsbury Academy and Kimball College, Lowell, Mass.
Her marriage to Edward Hamilton took place Sept. 27, 1927.
For a number of years Mrs. Hamilton was employed by state, first in the office of the highway department and later in the office of the secretary of state, under Rawson C. Myrick.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member of Bethany Congregation al 1 Church and was clerk of the church. She was active in Bethany Evening Club, the Montpelier Mothers Club and Rob Morris Chapter 24, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Edward J. Hamilton and R. Douglas Hamilton, and one daughter, Jane, all of Montpelier; her mother, Mrs. Ada Carruthers, Glastonbury, Conn.; three grandchildren, Peter, Glen and Lori Ann Hamilton of Montpelier; one brother, Robert C. Carruthers, Manchester, Conn.; one sister, Mae C. White, Windsor, Conn.; and three nieces, Mrs. Doris M. MacDougal, Montpelier, Mrs. Muriel M. Gray and Miss Eunice McIntyre of Sherbrooke.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 in Bethany Congregational Church, Montpelier. The Rev. Arthur M. Brown will officiate.
Burial will be in the Plain Mont Cemetery, Plainfield. The Barber and Lanier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
