Esther Candage
Mrs. Esther Quick Candage, 87, of Fifth Street died Saturday at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady after being stricken.
She lived in West Virginia before moving to the Capital Region many years ago. For the past 13 years, she resided in Scotia.
Mrs. Candage was the former owner and operator of the Candage Pony Farm in Rotterdam Junction for many years. She was also a postal worker at the Rotterdam Junction post office, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Tri-County Pony Club, Woestina Young at Heart and Rotterdam Junction Meal Site.
Mrs. Candage was a member of the Rotterdam Junction United Methodist Church and was a member of it's choir. She was also the church organist for many years.
She was the widow of Robert Mason. Mrs. Candage was later married to Everett Candage until his death.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph H. Mason of Scotia and Everett C. Candage Jr. of Schenectady; four daughters, Jean Oathout of Lowell, Vt., Dorothy E. Gignac of Delanson, Barbara E. Youker of Dolgeville and Betty Jane Sheppard of Heuvelton; a sister, Ruth Q. Dinan of Florence, Ariz., 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rotterdam Junction United Methodist Church.
Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotterdam Junction United Methodist Church, Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, N.Y. 12150.
