HAZLE R. SMITH
WINOOSKI - Hazle Ruth (Knight) Smith, 77, of Winooski died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1929, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Walton) Knight.
Hazle lived in Vermont, New York and Massachusetts all of her life. She was an avid reader and enjoyed both crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She had a love for red roses and enjoyed playing poker as well as a variety of other card games. She was a champion at dominos.
Hazle was predeceased by her husband, Rolon Earl Smith, in 1979 and her son Rikki Emory Smith in 2001.
She is survived by her son Rolon Eli Smith of Starksboro and her daughter Rise E. Berard of Winooski. She also leaves her grandchildren, Chuckie Wein, Rolinda Goodrich Rocque and her fianc Alex Gedutis, Regina Williams and her husband Randy. Rise A. Berard-Daniels and her husband Scott, Chantel A. Berard, David A.J. Berard, Allana M. Berard and her companion Dana Cota. Marie R. Smith, Robin E.
Miller and her companion Mark Berard, and Nikki Smith; her great-grandchildren, Samantha and Meghan Goodrich, Cheyna and Kolbi Rocque, Nathan, Jacob and Kathleen Williams, Tanya L. Berard-Daniels, Cheyenne A. Berard, Damien W. Berard-Cota, Matthew Emond, Brodey Thibault and Derek Berard; two daughters-in-law, Linda Carey and Eunice Smith; two aunts, Dorothy Plank of Florida and Joyce Burger of South Carolina; one uncle, George Walton and his wife Jeannie; three brothers, David Knight and his wife Nancy of Longview, Texas, Emory Knight and his wife Evelyn of McGraw, N.Y., Robert Knight and his wife Beverly of Monroe, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. Gilles (Eliza) Simard of Springfield, Mass., Mrs. David (Nan) Benker of Wallkill, N.Y. and Sally Walters of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a great many nieces and nephews; and a very dear friend, Cathy Machia of Starksboro. She was predeceased by four brothers, Clayton, Stanley, Edward "Skeeter," and William and his wife Beatrice.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 4 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the LaVigne Funeral Home on behalf of the Smith family to help with family matters. Visiting hours will be on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St., Winooski.
