Harold Monroe Stevens
Harold Monroe Stevens found peace on July 11, 2012, after a 10 year challenging journey with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born on March 11, 1933, in Huntington, son of Gladys and Heman Stevens.
He attended school in Huntington, then joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He returned to Burlington and worked security at General Electric. He later moved to Hardwick and became manager of Pellitier Lumber. After his retirement, he moved to his home in East Harwick and started his own trucking business, selling sawdust, bark mulch and compost. Harold was a Mason and Shriner, a member of the American Legion and a former member of the men's bowling league. He drove ambulance for Hardwick Rescue Squad for many years. He loved playing cards, sitting on his porch, working with his tractor, building bird houses, and one special joy was being the owner and keeper of the Hootie Dome ballfield. His happiest moments were spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Gladys and her son, Matthew, and Randi and her sons, James, Brooke, and Seth; sons, Daniel and David; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Hallock and Rita Bradley; sisters-in-law, Mavis, Margerat and Shirley; brother-in-law, Paul Bradley; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Dean and Ann, Dianne and Tim, Harold and Janet, and Clay; sister and brother-in-law, Verne and Mary; 11 step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Heman, Donald, George, Roger and Richard; sister, Dorothea Blish; brothers-in-law, Doug Blish and Clinton Hallock.
The family will receive friends on Sunday at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Church Street, Hardwick, from 1 to 4 p.m. Services will be at 3 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are in the care of des Groseilliers Funeral Homes, Church Street, Hardwick.
