Driver Crushed to Death By Two-Ton Bulldozer

Driver Crushed to Death By Two-Ton Bulldozer
GOLDEN VALLEY (Staff)-A man was crushed to death here Saturday while working with a bulldozer in the bush. The dead man is Vern Grawbarger, 28, of Bear Valley.
A bulldozer driver for the Moore Lumber Company of Golden Valley Grawbarger was working in the bush about eight miles south east of the village, which is 50 miles southwest of North Bay.
Prov. Const. Bob Lyle, who investigated the accident, told The Nugget today Grawbarger had gone into a side trail with his two-ton bulldozer to haul out some logs to the main trail.
He said there was a winch on the back of the dozer and an eight-foot long choker cable was attached to it used for hauling the logs. Grawbarger apparently got off the bulldozer, picked up one end of the choker cable and put it over his shoulder before backing out from the side trail. The other end of the cable became caught under the bulldozer as it began to move backwards, Grawbarger was hauled off the machine and underneath it.
Const. Lyle said death was probably due to strangulation. The accident occurred at 3.30 p.m. No inquest is anticipated, said Const. Lyle.
When Grawbarger failed to appear with the logs later on in the afternoon two truck drivers went into the bush and found him dead underneath the machine with the wire cable wound around his body.
Vern Grawbarger was married and leaves his wife and three small children.
