D. G. Byers
CALLANDER (Staff)-Funeral SE service was held today in the chapel of the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, for Duncan George Byers, RR1, Callander, who died suddenly Saturday at his home. He was 69.
The service was conducted by Rev. C. B. Taylor of South Shore Community Church, and interment took place at Nipissing Cemetery. Six members of the Callander Branch, Royal Canadian Legion, served as pallbearers.
Born June 4, 1896, in Renfrew County, Mr. Byers was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Byers of Sunset Cove. He had lived in the Callander area for the past 60 years, and was well known as a guide.
Mr. Byers was a veteran of the First World War, having served with the 19th and 162nd Battalions. His marriage to the former Margaret Hamilton took place at Renfrew Sept. 1, 1920.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, James, Camp Tillicum, and Rodney, Callander; and seven daughters, Mrs. A. Rennette (Irene), St. Catharines, Mrs. C. Liberty (Elda) and Mrs. G. Simms (Ruth), both of North Bay, Miss Edaleen Byers, Toronto; Mrs. A. MacWilliam (Edna) Corbeil, Mrs. J. Drober (Edith) and Mrs. W. Johnson (Sylvia), both of Ferris.
Also both surviving are two brothers, William, Quebec, Charles, Callander; and two sisters, Mrs. S. Leroy (Eliza), Callander, and Mrs. S. Hamilton (Annie), Frankville.
