John R. Reid Laid To Rest In Almonte
ALMONTE (Special) John Ramsay Reid, a popular member of this community, passed away at his home on Perth Street, after an illness of four weeks.
Born at Middleville on May 14, 1873, he was a son of the late James Reid and Sarah Pounder. He was married in 1900 to Margaret McKay, also of Middleville, and they farmed in Darling Township for a short time and in 1904, moved to the farm on the Clayton road where they farmed successfully until 1941 when Mr. Reid was forced to retire due to ill-health.
For the past 14 years they lived in Almonte and for a number of years Mr. Reid was employed as a foreman on the County Roads.
He leaves his wife, three daughters. Annie Mrs. Ross Craig of Ramsay township; Wilhelmine, Mrs. Raymond Kemp and Mabel, Mrs. Stewart Whyte, both of Ramsayville; two brothers, Alex M. Reid of Middleville, and Robert P. Reid of Ramsay township; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters predeceased him.
Mr. Reid was former elder of Guthrie United Church, Clayton, and a member of the Board of Stewards of Almonte United Church. He belonged to Mississippi Lodge, A.F. and A.M., Almonte, and to Granite Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, Almonte. He was an ardent member of the local Curling Club for many years and a president of the N.L.A.S. He served for many years as a director of the horse division, and as a horse lover he was widely known.
The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home to Almonte United Church where the minister the Rev. J. Ray Anderson officiated. A Masonic service was held at the Funeral Home prior to the service, under the auspices of Mississippi Lodge, A.F. and A.M.
The pallbearers were John Lindsay, Dr. M. Pilkey, E. J. Lee, Jas. Steele, John McGill and Robert Smithson. Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Clayton..
