Eleanor Gibson
GIBSON, Eleanor
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful death of Eleanor Jean Gibson on May 9, 2017, at the age of 98. Widow of J. Roy Gibson, and predeceased by her parents Jack Robertson and Mary McKay, sister Edna, and infant George. Survived by her children Jim, David, and Elizabeth, her 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Eleanor was born in Brandon, Manitoba, and grew up on the family farm in S.W Manitoba, near Ewart. She moved to Ottawa during WWII and had wonderful memories of the many relatives friends in the Ottawa Valley area who she felt were so good to her. She married Roy in 1948 and in their 66 years together, raised their family, vacationed around N. America on road trips with the kids, spent 25 winters in their Florida home and summers at the cottage, and numerous cruises with side trips. Mom often said lately how wonderful life has been. She was: a 50-year member of Hawthorne United Church; a generous but prudent parent and grandparent; an avid quilter and excellent pie-maker and a good listener. She will be terribly missed. Her family thank all the many people who have provided care and compassion to Mom in her time of need, particularly at the Courtyards on Eagleson. Friends are invited to visit the Central Chapel of Hulse Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod St. (at O'Connor) Ottawa, on Sunday. May 14, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday, May 15 from 10-11 a.m. Service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Donations on her behalf to the Shriner's Hospital or the charity of choice would be appreciated.
