GIBSON, J. Roy
Peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2015 in his 95th year, with family by his side. Roy is survived by Eleanor, his beloved wife of 66 years, as well as his sisters Doris (Mel Lavergne), and Valda (Jack McLean). Roy is survived by his children Jim (Krystyna). David (Gwen) and Elizabeth (Gary Gosson). Cherished grandfather to David Gosson (Sarah), Karen Gibson, Melissa (James Gardner), Angela Gibson, Kimberly Gibson, Matthew Gosson (Jennifer), Jessica Gibson. Beloved great-grandfather to 5 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents. Harry and Emma (Beaton): son George; siblings, Bertha (late Don Brady), Gordon (Jean) and Donald (late Helen). Roy grew up in Old Ottawa East and served in the RCAF during WWII. He was an electrician, who put down the tools for a fulfilling career in the growing National Research Council. He and Eleanor raised their family while leading a busy life, including numerous business ventures; a motel, 2 hardware stores. investment properties, also and he built several houses. At one point he earned his pilot's licence, but soon moved on to his next project. Roy and Eleanor had a home in Florida where they enjoyed 30 years of winters and a cottage for all those summers. As well they took numerous cruises and seemed to find retirement was a wonderful thing. Roy was a past-master of Chaudiere Masonic Lodge #264 GRC (Ont), and a member of the Royal Arch, Scottish Rite, and Tunis Temple Shrine. His support of Shriner Hospitals was of particular importance. Roy was a member of Hawthorne United Church for 60 years, and he counted his Christian beliefs to be the bedrock for a blessed life. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Thursday, January 22, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with a Masonic Service in the Chapel at 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. The family are very appreciative of the compassion and care received from Dr. Iny and the Palisades Seniors Residence. CCAC and Veterans Affairs. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions to The Shriners Hospital (1529 Avenue Cedar, Montréal. QC H3G 1A6) would be appreciated.
