M.E. Langdon Is Found Dead In Bed Here

M. E. LANGDON IS FOUND DEAD IN BED HERE
LIFE RESIDENT OF COUNTY DIES IN SLEEP-WAS BORN IN LEROY TOWNSHIP AND FORMER MANAGER OF GOODALL STATION ON LOGAN AVENUE-RITES SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
Melvin E. Langdon, 66, resident here for about 35 years, was found dead in bed in his home at 548 Caswell street, about 5:45 this morning.
Death was attributed to a heart attack. His sudden and unexpected passing was a tremendous shock to his family and a wide circle of friends here.
At about 5:45 this morning the alarm clock at the side of Mr. Langdon's bed rang and when he made no move to shut it off Mrs. Langdon tried to arouse him. Alarmed by his failure to respond to her shaking, she called to a daughter, Mrs. Floretta Hyland, who resides with them and it was found that he had passed away in his sleep.
Life Resident Of County
Mr. Langdon, was born in LeRoy township, Boone county, Dec. 20, 1878, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Langdon. He was educated in the rural schools of the county.
Mr. Langdon worked at the trade of machinist for a number of years, being employed by the National Lock company of Rockford and the Sanitary Scale company here. He operated the Goodall oil station on Logan avenue for nearly 10 years. His last occupation was with the People's Coal and Coke company here, and he was also a correspondent and salesman for the Fidelity Life Insurance co company of Fulton.
Mr. Langdon was twice married, his first wife passing away in 1902. June 14, 1906, he wed the former Miss Winnifred Landon in Rockford, and she survives with the daughter, Mrs. Floretta Hyland. There is also a daughter by his first marriage, Mrs. Mamie Secoy of near Rockford.
Also surviving are a brother, Frank Langdon of Allen's Grove, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bartlett of Beloit, Wis., and .Miss Edith Langdon of Rockford. There are also four grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death in addition to his first wife by his parents, two brothers, a son Millard Elmer Langdon and a daughter, Daisy, Member Of Masons
Mr. Langdon was a member of the Masonic order at Rockford.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Witbeck-Wheeler-Sabien Funeral home, in charge of the Rev. A. P. Burton, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial was in Belvidere cemetery.
