MARILYN SUE RODEN, 55 GILBERT, AZ - Marilyn Sue Roden, 55, of Gilbert, AZ, formerly of Belvidere, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, after an 11 month battle with cancer. Marilyn was born November 6, 1959, in Belvidere, IL; the daughter of Wesley and Nancy (Butz) Hyland. Marilyn graduated from Immanuel Lutheran School in Belvidere, Belvidere High School, Northern Illinois University, and earned her Master's degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. She married Garry R. Roden on January 6, 1984, in Belvidere. Marilyn was an elementary school teacher the past eighteen years; prior to her teaching career, she was a nutritionist as well as a dental assistant. Marilyn lived out her faith in leading several adult Bible studies. Marilyn is loved and will be missed by her husband, Garry of Gilbert, AZ; children, Samuel Roden of Gilbert, AZ and Sarah of Tucson, AZ; parents, Wes and Nancy Hyland of Belvidere; sister, Delores (Wayne) Mrozinski of Boulder City, NV; uncles, Wayne Butz of Belvidere, Paul (Shelly) Hyland of Crystal Lake; aunt, Mary (David) McEleney of Normal, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL, with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Monday prior to the service. Burial will be in Carman Cemetery. Memorials may be made given in care of Marilyn's family for an educational scholarship to be established. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL.
