Frank McCrory

Frank McCrory passed at home with his family at his side on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the age of 95. Loving husband of the late Agnes for 63 years. Cherished father of Rob, Ron (Kathy), John (Sue), Grant (Dana), and Carolann (Peter Berwaldt). Beloved Grandpa of Michael, Monica (Bill Doidge), Ryan, Preston (Kayla), Paisley (Josh), Spencer, Trevor (April), Brittany (Brendon Armstrong), Braden (Kyla) and step-grandpa to Gonzalo Soto. Frank also has 8 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-granddaughters. Pre-deceased by his beloved siblings Betty (Ern Ruble) and John (Judy).
Frank was born and raised in Hamilton. When Frank was in grade school, his family moved to Dundas and Frank got a job delivering bread for Bertram’s Bakery on his bicycle. As a teenager he set pins in the bowling alley at the Royal Connaught Hotel. Frank trained as a carpenter, starting his apprenticeship at age 16. When he was 19, he built a charming Cape Cod house for his parents in the Dundas Driving Park. Together with his good friend and business partner Frede Nielsen, he built many homes in Ancaster and Dundas. They also built the original bowling alley Ancaster Lanes, which they operated for several years. Frank married Agnes Hazelwood in 1956 and he built their first home in Ancaster in 1958. Frank and Agnes finished their years in a lovely condo in Ancaster. After Agnes’ death in 2019, Frank continued to live in his home with devoted support from his family and caregivers. Special thanks to Grant, Rob, Ron, Ida, Tess, Dana, Jo, Sarah and Paisley for making it possible for Frank to remain at home and live his final years in quiet contentment.
Services are entrusted to Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home - Ancaster Chapel (378 Wilson Street). A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cremation has taken place. It was Frank’s wish to be cremated and his ashes will be buried with his dear Agnes at White Chapel in private.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or St. Joseph’s Home Care would be greatly appreciated.
