Miss Erma Sterns Of Raymond Dies 6 Years After Car Crash In Which Her Back Was Broken
Miss Erma Mae Sterns, 21, of Raymond, died at 5:10 o'clock Monday afternoon, six years after an auto crash in which she suffered a broken back. She had been an invalid since the accident November 24, 1933, in which Adolph and Lawrence Hellerich, both of Valparaiso, were fatally injured.
It was reported at the time of the accident that Miss Sterns was paralyzed from the hips down. She was a member of a young group en route to a wiener roast when their car crashed through a bridge railing, plunging 25 feet. The mishap occurred five miles northeast of Valparaiso. Miss Sterns was then 16 years old.
Hlmer Mellerich, cousin of the two fatally injured, and Miss Irene Gedes of Malcolm were also injured in the accident.
Miss Sterns passed away at her home five miles west of Raymond. She was a member of the Crounse Methodist church.
Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Sterns; two sisters, Mrs. Harley Giles of Lincoln, and Marilyn, at home; three brothers, J. Calvin, Louis and Richard, all at home; and a grandmother, Mrs. Louis Forke of Raymond. The body is at Wadlow's.
