| 652 |  | Howard Smith H. J. Smith CHISHOLM — The funeral service for a lifelong resident of Chisholm Howard James Smith, R.R. 1 Powassan was conducted today by Rev. W. L. Woodward at St John's Anglican Church at Chisholm. A supervisor for the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Mr. Smith died suddenly Saturday at his home. He was 47. Pallbearers were: Nelson Giles, Lloyd Tennant, Ward Smith, Walter Frederick, Maurice Livingston and Edward Thompson. Interment was at Boxwell Cemetery. Born at Chisholm June 25 1924, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smith. He was married to the former Florence Frederich in 1950 at Chisholm where he attended St John’s Anglican Church which he served as secretary-treasurer. Worden of 31 Allan Rd., St. Martins, husband of Mrs. Shirley (Clark) Worden occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 10, 2000. Born in Kingston Peninsula a son of the late Ross and Agnes (Scovil) Worden. Mr. Worden was a self employed Mechanical Engineer and had traveled extensively to numerous construction sites. In his spare time Mr. Worden enjoyed working with computers, designing machinery and traveling. Surviving besides his wife Shirley are his children Leonard (Michele) of New Hampshire, Nancy Bradford (Cecil) of Manitoba, Sharon Worden of Ontario and Janice Soloman (Jeffrey) of British Columbia as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Worden is also survived by several stepbrothers and sisters along with several cousins. He is predeceased by a daughter Kathy. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, from where the service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2000. at 1:00 p.m. followed by interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. | 657 |  | Huntington Boy Dies of Wound Caused by Sharp 'Instrument' Huntington Boy Dies of Wound Caused by Sharp 'Instrument' State police Sunday pressed their investigation of the strange death of Douglas L. Blish II, 8, of Huntington at his home last Friday evening. State's Atty. John J. Boylan Jr. of Burlington said troopers and members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation were working to piece together details of the youngster's death. Was Playing on Sofa Police said they were told the boy was playing on the sofa at his home with some other youngsters between 7:20 and 7:45 p.m. Friday when he collapsed and died before a doctor arrived. Troopers said they were told the boy had fallen in the woods earlier in the day and had suffered a cut in his left shoulder that did not appear too serious. An autopsy performed Saturday by Dr. Richard S. Woodruff of Burlington, the state pathologist, revealed the boy had died of internal bleeding caused by a puncture of the main artery that carries blood to the heart. Caused by 'Instrument' Dr. Woodruff said the autopsy indicated the puncture of the artery was caused by a sharp "instrument" of some kind. He said he did not think the wound was caused by a sharp twig or similar object. "We are still trying to find out exactly how the youngster died," said Boylan. Ian was 65 years old, having been born in 1955 at the Milden Hospital. He went on to work as a millwright in Alberta, Saskatchewan and even a gold mine in Kyrgyzstan, Russia. Ian is lovingly remembered by his daughter Michele Nelson and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Nicholas Nelson; sisters: Dianne (Max) Oertli, Kitty (Bill) Paslawski; numerous nieces and nephews; relatives and friends in the Milden/Dinsmore/Rosetown communities. Dierkhising Dies In Edmonton MAYERTHORPE - Funeral services were held in St. Agnes' Roman Catholic Church, Mayerthorpe, Feb. 26 for Joseph Dierkhising, 21, of Ardmore who was fatally injured in a railway crossing accident on Feb. 19. He died in Edmonton's University Hospital Feb. 20. He had been a resident of the Mayerthorpe district until last year when he moved to the Bonnyville district. Father Terry of Whitecourt and Father Prefontaine of Mayerthorpe conducted the service. Interment was in Mayerthorpe Cemetery. Pallbearers were his cousins: Darryl Dierkhising, Henry, Frank, William and Leonard Starman and brother-in-law, Daryl Barth. Roy is survived by Eleanor, his beloved wife of 66 years, as well as his sisters Doris (Mel Lavergne), and Valda (Jack McLean). Roy is survived by his children Jim (Krystyna). David (Gwen) and Elizabeth (Gary Gosson). Cherished grandfather to David Gosson (Sarah), Karen Gibson, Melissa (James Gardner), Angela Gibson, Kimberly Gibson, Matthew Gosson (Jennifer), Jessica Gibson. Roy grew up in Old Ottawa East and served in the RCAF during WWII. He was an electrician, who put down the tools for a fulfilling career in the growing National Research Council. He and Eleanor raised their family while leading a busy life, including numerous business ventures; a motel, 2 hardware stores. investment properties, also and he built several houses. At one point he earned his pilot's licence, but soon moved on to his next project. Roy and Eleanor had a home in Florida where they enjoyed 30 years of winters and a cottage for all those summers. As well they took numerous cruises and seemed to find retirement was a wonderful thing. Roy was a past-master of Chaudiere Masonic Lodge #264 GRC (Ont), and a member of the Royal Arch, Scottish Rite, and Tunis Temple Shrine. His support of Shriner Hospitals was of particular importance. Roy was a member of Hawthorne United Church for 60 years, and he counted his Christian beliefs to be the bedrock for a blessed life. Born at North Bay, May 16, 1948, Joseph Harvey Fryer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fryer of Angus Ave. The family lived at Powassan and Callander before taking up residence at North Bay 14 years ago. His parents survive, two brothers, Gerald and Billy, and three sisters, Lois, Sherry and Rose-Mary, all at home. Jackie, in her 90th year, was the beloved wife of the late Tom Corneal and the late Oliver John Hanna. Much loved mother of Dianne (Peter) Russell and their children Jason and three grandchildren, Shannon (Mike), Shirley McLean (Greg Thornton) and her children Dione (Francis), Tina (Steve), Kimberley (Steve), and John McLean (Jennifer), along with 11 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Linda (Tom) Steele and children Christopher Staples (Jen), Jamie Staples (Shannon), Carrie Phillips (Coley) and Christy Steele (predeceased) and their 5 grandchildren and by her son John Hanna. Mathews on Wednesday afternoon for Jacob Duncan Stanley Leroy, of Callander, who died in St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday after a German souvenir gun he was handling went off, causing fatal injuries. The service was conducted at the home of his mother, Mrs. Eliza Leroy of Callander. Pallbearers were Edward Byers, Freddie Ayers, Ray Daniher, Willis, Harvey and Herb Knapp. Interment took place at the Callander cemetery. Born in Callander 28 years ago, Jacob Leroy enlisted in the Canadian Army shortly after the outbreak of war and served in the armed forces for five and one half years. Unmarried, he was predeceased by his father, Simon Leroy, and a brother, who was killed in action overseas. Mr. Sittler was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, St. Jacobs member of the St. Jacobs Lions Club. Dear husband of Frances Sittler of St. Jacobs and was predeceased by his first wife, the former Lydia Spencer. Loving father of Charles and his wife Lillian of Kitchener, Joy and her husband Mahlon Snyder, Clementine and her husband Elmer Hill, all of St. Jacobs, Annie Sittler of Winnipeg, Ruby husband Allan Madgett of Trenton, Joan and her husband Don Blum of Kitchener, Esther Temple of Kitchener, Laurel and her husband Martin of Chepstow, Orvil Hasenpflug and his wife Mary of Petersburg, Edward Hasenpflug and his wife Kathy of Kitchener. Also survived by daughters Doris Sittler of St. Jacobs and Meryl Sittler of Winnipeg: sister-in-law, Ruby Sittler of St. Jacobs; 36 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren: 20 step-grandchildren and 29 step-great-grandchildren. Will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sons, Ken, Joe, Tom and John; daughters, Mary and Lorraine; brothers, John and Andrew: sisters, Marion and Catherine. Mr. Sitter's family will receive friends at the Edward R.
