Mrs. Rachel Townsley
Mrs. Rachel Townsley
In Buckland, Feb. 11, Mrs. Rachel Townsley, wife of Mr. Dan Townsley aged 84. By this afflicting dispensation of Divine Providence, a bereaved husband with whom aha has lived for nearly 61 years and her children, have been called to part with a most valuable and endeared friend. For nearly 60 years she has been a member of a Congregational Church, and all the while she has maintained a consistent Christian character. Her piety was of the practical kind, keeping her humble in prosperity, supporting her in adversity, and causing her to constantly keep in view, the realities of a future world. During an illness of 8 weeks, not a murmur escaped her lips, but all things, she felt, were right and ordered in goodness and mercy — 'Not my will, oh God, but thine be done,’ was the prevailing sentiment of her heart. Her reason continued unimpaired to the last. She had no fear whatever of death, but desired whenever her Father should order it that her appointed time might come, to depart and be at rest. And when the hour arrived that she should tread the valley of death, she filtered not The rod and the staff of her Redeemer, were both her support and consolation.
'Her God sustained her in her final hour,' and after bidding farewell to her friends and commending them to the grace of God, she laid her head upon her Savior's bosom and 'breathed her life out sweetly there.’
'The pains of death are past,
Labor and sorrow cease,
And life’s long warfare closed at last,
Her soul now rests in peace.'
